Russell County had a great experience this summer in Washington DC participating in the annual National Competition July 19-23, 2021.
Out of the 3100 programs nationally 40 were selected to compete in person for the national event. The Russell Country Team consisted of White, Alexis Hopkins, Devin Neal, and Victoria Villanueva). The competition included team and individual tasks, including out of the box thinking, Leadership Reaction Courses, Leadership in US History, and problem solving.
During the 2020-2021 academic year CSM Jones organized and trained JROTC JLAB Academic and Leadership teams. Both teams competed and won regional and Brigade level competitions, thus qualifying among the top 40 teams nationally.
Also, over the summer break CSM Jones designed, implemented, and ran a training curriculum for both teams to prepare for the nationals. The training was conducted virtually through Google Classroom. The training consisted of graded exercises, discussions, and reading.
On 19 July Lieutenant Colonel Pudil and his wife escorted the JLAB Leadership Team to Washington DC. The team competed over two days and spent two days doing experiential learning at the DC Mall, visiting the White House, Smithsonian, and a myriad of monuments. The RCHS JLAB Team finished 11th place out of 40 schools.
Way to go RCHS!
