Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Chevelle Thomas, Senior Army Instructor for Murphy High School, Mobile County Public Schools on 6 April 2023 received the “The Ancient Order of Saint Gabriel Medal” for her distinguished service to the United States Army as a Public Affairs Officer, both in peacetime and while supporting combat operations overseas.  Colonel Christian Patterson, Commander, U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center presented the award.  They were deployed to Afghanistan September 2008 through September 2009 in support of the Global War on Terrorism where they were responsible for telling the Army’s story to the United States and International communities abroad. Murphy High School JROTC Completes Junior Achievement High School Heroes Project On 8 March, the Murphy High School JROTC Military Leadership Academy (Mobile County Schools) completed their Community Service Learning Project via Junior Achievement High School Heroes - iCivics program at Mary B. Austin Elementary School where they taught K-2nd grade about themselves, their families and their community. They taught five different lessons and ate lunch with the kids. Huntsville JROTC Pioneers Space Force Affiliation The Huntsville High School JROTC program is among the first in the country to convert their affiliation from the Air Force to the Space Force. On 19 August USSF Col Niki Lindhorst, Commander of Space Force Delta 13, and Chief Master Sergeant Esther Sanford, senior enlisted advisor for Space Force Delta 13 (the Education delta), visited Huntsville High School and their AFJROTC unit. She met with the Huntsville City Schools School Board and Superintendent Christie Finley first thing in the morning and was presented a cadet-created, cadet-led Mission Brief by the Command Staff of AL-941.
